Active military members, retired veterans and their families are afforded even more benefits in addition to the federal veteran benefits they receive. Military personnel and their families can take advantage of benefits offered by hundreds of companies across the United States. Discounts are available on automobiles, shopping, hotels, restaurants, insurance, electronics, wireless internet services and many other things. What follows is a list of some of the more popular discounts offered to servicemembers in the U.S.

Automotive Discounts

Companies offer attractive rebates, financing options, bonus cash, discounts and other benefits to military servicemembers who would like to purchase cars of any type. Among the participating companies that offer these discounts are: Toyota, Victory Motors, Volkswagen, Volvo, TBC Retail Group and Scion. In addition, Pep Boys offers a military discount, as does Meineke, O'Reilly Auto Parts and Jiffy Lube. Furthermore, car and motorcycle companies such as Lincoln Motor Company, Infiniti, Harley-Davidson, Hyundai, General Motors, American Car Craft, Chrysler, Ford and Audi of America all offer varying discounts for active and former military personnel.

Car Rental Discounts

Servicemembers can receive discounts on car rentals from companies such as Avis Car Rental, Dollar, ACE Rent a Car, Alamo Car Rental, Budget Car Rental, National Car Rental, Hertz Rental Cars and Thrifty. Park Ride Fly USA discounts are also available to veterans interested in airport-based travel. A current military ID will need to be presented at the time of reservation.

Shoe and Clothing Discounts

Servicemembers enjoy shopping discounts from a number of apparel stores, such as: Columbia Sportswear, Aeropostale, Brides Across America, Jelly Bean Quilts, Alfred Angelo Bridal Boutique, Nike and Kohl's. Shoe stores such as Lady Foot Locker, Rack Room Shoes, Sperry Boat Shoes & Clothing, Oakley, Torrid, Wilson's Leather and Under Armour also offer discounts, not only to military personnel, but also to their immediate family members.

Electronic Discounts

Veteran discounts on computers and electronics from Apple, Dell, Audio Geeks, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft 365 are offered wherever these items are sold. Most offer discounts via rebates, which must be submitted by the service personnel for redemption.

Education Discounts

Servicemembers can receive a discount on tuition fees from Kaplan University, Keystone School, Berklee School of Music, California Southern University, Trident University, Regent University and Saint Joseph's University. In addition, Tutor.com offers free tutoring to servicemembers.

Entertainment Discounts

Service personnel who would like to receive benefits on certain entertainment venues can enjoy discounts from Vettix, Fandango, Cinemark Movie Theaters and Showcase Cinemas.

Food and Wine Discounts

Discounts on food and wine are offered by Sam's Club, Costco Wholesale, Omaha Steaks, Superior Nut, Thrive Market and Texas de Brazil, to name a few. Most markets offer some type of discount, but this must be arranged before checkout.

Restaurant Discounts

Restaurants that give discounts to military personnel include Burger King, Buffalo Wild Wings, Boston Market and Chick-fil-A. Certain restaurants such as Chevy Fresh Mex, Dairy Queen, Chuck E. Cheese and Lonestar Steakhouse & Saloon extend their discounts to include military families. Also, Shoney's, Outback Steakhouse, Hard Rock Café and Fuddruckers offer discounts on the total bill to dining parties as long as one person is in the military.

Flowers and Gift Discounts

Businesses that offer discounts on flowers and gifts include Stationery Xpress, Hickory Farms, Pro Flowers, 1st in Flowers, BuildASign.com, 1-800 Flowers and the Bro Basket. Most will require military members to provide their ID numbers.

Travel and Hotel Discounts

Discounts on airfare are provided by American Airlines, and rail service discounts are provided by Amtrak. Hotels such as Hyatt Hotels, Howard Johnsons, Marriott Hotels, KOA Campgrounds and La Quinta Inns & Suites offer significant discounts to military personnel. Military families can enjoy discounts on Blue Star Museums, Disney Cruise Lines, Clipper Vacations, Castel Resorts, Disney Parks, Greyhound, Jellystone Parks, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean. Most parks and federal recreational lands, as well as most Six Flags Amusement Parks, offer discounts and free passes.

Recreational and Retail Discounts

Servicemembers can enjoy retail discounts from Bass Pro Shops, Best Bully Sticks, Cabela's, Bell Bicycling and Motorcycle Helmets, Smith and Wesson, Scorpyd Crossbows, Profox Racing and Taylor Made Golf. Most military personnel who are stationed near larger metropolitan areas can enjoy a wider array of service discounts. Depending on the area in which the service family resides, there may be a listing of participating stores with the Ombudsman on base. In military towns, most stores cater to the military personnel stationed in their area, and are more than happy to answer any questions about how to redeem discounts and rebates.
